Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yigu Formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal decoction developed by the Shanghai Yangzhi Rehabilitation Hospital (also known as the Shanghai Sunshine Rehabilitation Center) for the treatment of osteopenia and the prevention of osteoporosis. The formula is composed of several medicinal herbs, including *Epimedium brevicornu*, *Psoralea corylifolia*, and *Drynaria fortunei*, which are traditionally used to strengthen bone and kidney function. Mechanistically, Yigu Formula works by balancing bone remodeling; it promotes osteoblast differentiation and bone formation while inhibiting osteoclast activity and bone resorption, primarily through the modulation of the OPG/RANKL/RANK signaling pathway. Clinical studies conducted at the hospital have demonstrated its efficacy in increasing bone mineral density (BMD) and improving bone metabolism markers in patients with low bone mass.
