Yinchen Siwei Decoction

Yinchen Siwei Decoction (YCSWD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula specifically designed for the treatment of neonatal jaundice and cholestasis. It is a four-herb variation of the classic Yinchenhao Decoction, typically comprising *Artemisia capillaris* (Yinchen), *Gardenia jasminoides* (Zhizi), *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), and *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai). The formula works synergistically to clear damp-heat, promote choleresis (bile flow), and facilitate the excretion of bilirubin. Pharmacologically, its active constituents—such as capillarisin and geniposide—act as agonists for nuclear receptors like the Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) and Pregnane X receptor (PXR), which regulate bile acid synthesis and transport. It is currently being studied in clinical trials as an adjunct to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) for managing neonatal cholestasis.
