Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yinhuang is a traditional Chinese medicine formulation primarily composed of honeysuckle extract and sometimes other herbal ingredients. It is widely used in China for its properties of clearing heat, detoxifying the body, and providing anti-inflammatory effects. The main indications include acute and chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis, upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), oral ulcers, and related inflammatory conditions. Mechanistically, studies suggest that it exerts anti-inflammatory effects by modulating immune responses and reducing oxidative stress—potentially through activation of the Nrf2 pathway—and may also inhibit fibroblast activation in fibrotic diseases[1][2][5]. Various formulations exist including capsules, granules, lozenges/tablets for buccal administration[1][3][4][5]. It is approved for use in China.
