Yinzhihuang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation widely used in China for the treatment of neonatal jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia) and various liver disorders, including hepatitis and cholestasis. The formulation typically consists of extracts from *Artemisia capillaris* (Yinchen), *Gardenia jasminoides* (Zhizi), *Lonicera japonica* (Jinyinhua), and baicalin (a flavonoid from *Scutellaria baicalensis*). Its primary therapeutic effect is the reduction of serum bilirubin levels, which it achieves by inducing hepatic enzymes such as UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 (UGT1A1) and promoting the secretion and excretion of bile. These effects are largely mediated through the activation of nuclear receptors, including the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) and the pregnane X receptor (PXR). Yinzhihuang is available in several forms, with the oral liquid being the most common for neonatal use due to its safety profile compared to the injectable form. It has been studied in multicenter clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy in neonates, including those with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
