Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqi Huatan Quyu is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The formula is based on the therapeutic principle of supplementing Qi, resolving phlegm, and removing blood stasis, which targets the core pathological mechanisms of COPD according to TCM theory. It typically consists of herbal components such as Astragalus membranaceus, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Pinellia ternata, and Fritillaria thunbergii. Research indicates that the formula exerts anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-8 (IL-8). Additionally, it helps regulate the protease-antiprotease balance by modulating matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) levels. Clinical trials have demonstrated its efficacy in improving lung function, reducing the frequency of acute exacerbations, and enhancing the quality of life for patients with stable COPD.
