Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqi Huayu Bushen Formula (益气化瘀补肾方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula designed to "tonify qi," "invigorate blood circulation and resolve stasis," and "nourish the kidney." It is not a single chemical entity but a multi-herb prescription, typically used in TCM for conditions associated with kidney deficiency, blood stasis, and qi deficiency. The formula's mechanism of action is based on TCM theory and includes improving microcirculation, enhancing immune function, reducing proteinuria, protecting renal structure (such as podocytes), and modulating coagulation/fibrinolysis pathways. Commonly included herbs are Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi), Angelica sinensis (Danggui), Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), Rehmannia glutinosa (Dihuang), Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), Paeonia lactiflora or Paeonia veitchii root (Chishao), Carthamus tinctorius flower (Honghua), Persicae semen (Taoren), Leonurus japonicus herb (Yimucao) among others[3][6]. The exact composition may vary by clinical application or practitioner. The formula has been studied for its effects in chronic kidney disease—including membranous nephropathy—where it can reduce proteinuria, improve renal function markers, enhance immunity, inhibit fibrosis-related pathways such as TGF-β1 signaling, upregulate protective proteins like Nephrin/Podocin/Synaptopodin in the kidney tissue[6], and improve microcirculation by promoting blood flow. It may also be used adjunctively with Western therapies for acute renal failure or other chronic diseases where qi deficiency/blood stasis/kidney deficiency are diagnosed according to TCM principles[8].
