Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqi Huoxue Huatan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed as a granule for the treatment of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) complicated by chronic respiratory failure (CRF). The formula is designed based on the TCM principles of supplementing Qi (Yiqi), promoting blood circulation (Huoxue), and resolving phlegm (Huatan). It is typically used as an adjunctive therapy to standard Western medicine to reduce mortality, decrease acute exacerbations, and improve the quality of life in patients with severe respiratory conditions. A Phase 3 clinical trial sponsored by Peking University People's Hospital has evaluated its efficacy and safety in this patient population, specifically focusing on its ability to reduce mortality in patients with COPD and chronic respiratory failure.
