Yiqi Huoxue Tongmai Formula

Yiqi Huoxue Tongmai Formula is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound formula designed to "invigorate qi," promote blood circulation, and clear the meridians. It is primarily used for conditions characterized by qi deficiency and blood stasis, such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy and diabetic lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans. The formula typically contains herbs like Astragalus (to invigorate qi), Angelica (to nourish and activate blood), Salvia miltiorrhiza, peach kernel, safflower, Achyranthes bidentata, Chixueteng, among others. These ingredients work synergistically to nourish qi and blood, promote circulation, remove stasis, relax tendons, dredge collaterals (vessels), reduce inflammation markers such as TNF-α and IL-1β in clinical studies[1][6]. Mechanistically in TCM theory it regulates both "qi" (vital energy) and "blood," improves microcirculation by reducing hemorheological indices like plasma viscosity and erythrocyte aggregation index[1], lowers inflammatory cytokines[6], improves vascular function parameters such as artery diameter/blood flow velocity[6], reduces hypercoagulability of the blood[6], and alleviates symptoms of numbness/neuralgia associated with microvascular complications.
