Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqi Qingfei Granule, formerly known as Qing-Jin Yi-Qi Granule, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) developed by a team led by academician Zhang Boli of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in collaboration with China Resources Sanjiu Medical & Pharmaceutical. [12, 13, 17] The formulation is a 16-herb granule derived from two ancient TCM prescriptions, Shengmai San and Pingwei San. [1, 9] In TCM theory, its function is to replenish qi and nourish yin, strengthen the spleen, and clear heat and dampness. [6, 17] It was initially investigated in clinical trials for patients in the convalescence stage of COVID-19 to alleviate symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and cough. [2, 3] The drug has since been approved for marketing in China for the treatment of symptoms during the recovery period of respiratory tract infections. [12, 13] While its mechanism is based on holistic TCM principles, some research has explored its molecular targets. An in silico study suggested that active components like ginsenoside Rb2 and RG4 bind to Endothelial cell-selective adhesion molecule (ESAM), indicating a potential mechanism for its effects on fatigue and cough.
