Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqi Tongluo Xiezhuo is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Dongzhimen Hospital of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The formula is designed to address the TCM pathogenesis of Qi deficiency, collateral obstruction, and internal accumulation of turbidity toxins. It functions by supplementing Qi, dredging collaterals, and promoting the excretion of metabolic waste (turbidity). Pharmacological studies indicate that the formula inhibits the TGF-beta1/Smad signaling pathway, which is a key driver of renal interstitial fibrosis. It also reduces the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha, decreases proteinuria, and lowers serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels, thereby slowing the progression of renal dysfunction.
