Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Yiqi Yangxue formula** is a prescribed **Chinese herbal medicine** formulation used primarily for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and investigated for liver fibrosis and chronic hepatitis B cirrhosis[1][3][4][5]. Its formula contains botanicals such as astragalus, codonopsis, tangerine peel, cohosh, bupleurum, angelica, cassia twig, white peony, atractylodes, licorice, divaricate saposhniovia root, ligusticum wallichii, rhizoma drynariae, and epimedium[4]. Mechanistically, Yiqi Yangxue formula acts by inhibiting cartilage degeneration through regulating the lncRNA-UFC1/miR-34a/MMP-13 axis, thus inhibiting cell apoptosis, promoting cell proliferation, and reducing inflammatory mediators. The in vivo active constituents include flavonoids (quercetin, fisetin) and phenylpropanoids (demethylweldelolactone); relevant pathways are IL-17, TNF signaling, relaxin, and C-type lectin receptor signaling[1][4][5]. It demonstrated a high total effective rate for KOA (96.67% in one clinical study), with comparable or fewer adverse effects than standard therapy[4]. For decompensated hepatitis B cirrhosis, combination therapy with entecavir improved liver function markers and reduced fibrosis, with good safety[3].
