Overview
Yiqi Yangyin Huoxue Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula used to treat ischemic stroke, particularly in patients exhibiting qi-yin deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. A specific version, Yangyin Yiqi Huoxue Granule (YYHG), was developed by the Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has undergone Phase II and Phase III clinical trials. The formula is composed of multiple botanical ingredients, including Astragalus (to invigorate qi), Rehmannia and Wolfberry (to nourish yin), and Angelica and Red Peony Root (to promote blood circulation). Mechanistically, it is reported to modulate the Wnt signaling pathway, which helps reduce neuroinflammation and promotes the proliferation of neural stem cells. In addition to stroke, the formula has been studied for its therapeutic potential in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, and type 2 diabetes.
