Overview
Yiqijianpi Anticancer Prescription is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by The Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital to Southwest Medical University. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of recurrence of colorectal adenomatous polyps following endoscopic resection. The prescription is formulated based on the TCM principle of 'replenishing Qi and strengthening the Spleen' (Yiqijianpi) to address the systemic 'Spleen deficiency' and localized 'toxins' believed to drive polyp formation and oncogenesis. Pharmacological studies suggest that the formula exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the gut microbiota, reducing chronic mucosal inflammation, and inhibiting abnormal epithelial cell proliferation. Key molecular mechanisms identified include the downregulation of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), as well as the inhibition of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway, which is frequently dysregulated in colorectal neoplasia.
