Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiqing is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation derived from the classic "Sanhuang Xiexin Tang" decoction. It is primarily composed of extracts from three medicinal herbs: *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), and *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang). The formula is traditionally used to clear heat, detoxify, and cool the blood to stop bleeding. Clinically, it is approved in China for treating conditions associated with "toxic heat" syndrome, such as acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, gingivitis, and recurrent aphthous ulcers. Modern pharmacological research has demonstrated its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, leading to clinical investigations for its efficacy in treating acne vulgaris and as an adjunctive therapy for COVID-19 (Omicron variant). It is manufactured in various forms, including capsules and oral liquids, by companies such as Chengdu Kanghong Pharmaceutical Group.
