Yishentongluo

Yishentongluo is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy developed by the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The therapy is based on the TCM principles of tonifying the kidney (Yishen) and dredging the collaterals (Tongluo). It typically involves the use of specific herbal prescriptions tailored to the disease stage, such as Baoshentongluo Xiaobai (focused on reducing proteinuria) and Baoshentongluo Xizhuo (focused on clearing metabolic waste or 'turbidity'). Clinical evaluation of Yishentongluo therapy often involves its use as an add-on to standard-of-care treatments like ACE inhibitors or ARBs to further improve renal function, reduce urinary albumin excretion, and slow the progression of kidney damage in diabetic patients.
