Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yiyuancong is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula, typically administered in capsule form, developed for the treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease. The formula is composed of several botanical extracts, including *Polygonum multiflorum*, *Acorus tatarinowii*, and *Alisma orientale*. It is thought to exert its therapeutic effects through a multi-target approach, including the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) to boost cholinergic transmission, the reduction of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque formation, and the provision of neuroprotective antioxidant effects. Developed primarily by researchers at the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Yiyuancong has been evaluated in clinical trials in China to assess its ability to improve memory and cognitive function in patients with early-stage dementia.
