Overview

Yolimer is an oral immunoglobulin Y (IgY) antibody preparation developed for the treatment of *Helicobacter pylori* infection. IgY is an avian antibody harvested from the egg yolks of hens immunized against specific pathogens—in this case, *H. pylori*. The mechanism involves the passive immunization of the gastrointestinal tract, where the antibodies bind to *H. pylori* surface antigens and the urease enzyme. This binding inhibits bacterial adhesion to the gastric mucosa and neutralizes urease activity, which is essential for the bacteria's survival in the acidic stomach environment, thereby facilitating bacterial clearance. Yolimer is being evaluated in clinical trials, such as those sponsored by Wenzhou Central Hospital, as a non-antibiotic alternative or adjunct to standard triple or quadruple therapy to improve eradication rates and reduce gastrointestinal symptoms.
