Young fresh frozen plasma (yFFP) is a blood product derived from the liquid portion of whole blood collected from healthy donors typically aged 18–25. The plasma is separated and rapidly frozen within hours of collection to preserve labile proteins and bioactive factors. Compared to standard FFP, yFFP is specifically sourced from younger donors under the hypothesis that it contains higher concentrations of beneficial proteins, growth factors, antioxidants, cytokines, exosomes (extracellular vesicles), and other molecules associated with tissue repair and cellular rejuvenation[2][3][5][8]. The mechanism of action for therapeutic use in conventional medicine involves replacing deficient or dysfunctional coagulation factors in patients with bleeding disorders or coagulopathies[1][6]. In experimental or off-label contexts—especially anti-aging—the proposed mechanisms include modulation of inflammation via cytokines/exosomes; enhancement of tissue repair; immune system support; reduction in senescent cell burden; and possible reversal or slowing of age-related molecular changes[3][5][8]. While animal studies and some early human case series suggest potential benefits for neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease), wound healing, cardiovascular health, muscle strength improvement, and general vitality[3][5], there are no well-controlled clinical trials proving efficacy for these indications. The FDA does not approve yFFP for anti-aging or cognitive enhancement purposes due to lack of evidence[9].
