Young plasma is an investigational biologic therapy being evaluated by the Peking University Third Hospital for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The therapy involves the intravenous administration of plasma derived from healthy young donors, typically aged 18 to 30 years. The underlying hypothesis, derived from heterochronic parabiosis studies, suggests that young blood contains a milieu of regenerative factors and lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines that can mitigate the neurodegenerative environment in ALS.
