Drug intelligence / Profile preview
YPEG-rhEPO is a long-acting, PEGylated recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) analog. It is engineered by attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains to rhEPO, which increases its molecular size and stability, thereby prolonging its half-life in circulation compared to standard rhEPO. Like other erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs), YPEG-rhEPO acts as an agonist of the erythropoietin receptor on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, stimulating their proliferation and differentiation into mature red blood cells. This mechanism makes it useful for treating anemia, particularly that associated with chronic kidney disease or chemotherapy[3][6][7][8]. PEGylation allows for less frequent dosing than conventional rhEPO therapies[8].
