Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yipesen (YPEG-rhGH) is a long-acting recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) developed by Xiamen Tebao Bioengineering. It consists of rhGH (somatropin) conjugated to a 40 kDa Y-shaped polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety using a proprietary PEGylation technology. This Y-shaped modification increases the molecule's hydrodynamic volume, thereby reducing renal clearance and extending its circulating half-life, which allows for once-weekly subcutaneous administration. Yipesen acts as an agonist at the growth hormone receptor (GHR), stimulating the JAK2/STAT5 signaling pathway and the subsequent production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 then mediates the growth-promoting and metabolic effects of the hormone. Yipesen was approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2024 for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency in children and is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for adult growth hormone deficiency, including studies in elderly adults.
