Yttriga is a pharmaceutical-grade yttrium-90 (Y-90) chloride solution developed and manufactured by Eckert & Ziegler Radiopharma. It is a reactor-produced therapeutic radioisotope with a half-life of 64.1 hours that functions as a high-energy beta-emitting radionuclide. Yttriga is primarily utilized as a radiopharmaceutical precursor for the radiolabeling of various carrier molecules, such as peptides or antibodies, in targeted radionuclide therapy. It is also a critical component in radioembolization procedures (Selective Internal Radiation Therapy or SIRT) for treating liver malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, where it delivers localized cytotoxic ionizing radiation to tumor tissues. The deep tissue penetration of its beta particles (averaging 2.5 mm) allows for effective irradiation of larger tumor masses while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
