Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yttrium-90 carbon microspheres injection (NRT6003, TareSphere) is an innovative, carbon-based radioactive microsphere formulation developed by Chengdu New Radiomedicine Technology (NRT) for selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) of solid tumors, primarily unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). The microspheres, measuring 20–45 μm in diameter, are delivered via minimally invasive intra-arterial infusion directly to the tumor's vascular network. Once lodged, the embedded yttrium-90 (Y-90) radionuclide decays, emitting high-energy, pure beta (β) radiation with a short half-life and a limited average tissue penetration range of approximately 2.5 mm. This localized radiation induces DNA damage and cytotoxic effects in cancer cells while minimizing collateral damage to surrounding healthy liver tissue.
