Yttrium Y 90-labeled basiliximab is a radiolabeled chimeric mouse-human monoclonal antibody targeting the alpha subunit of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R alpha, CD25). It is conjugated with the radioactive isotope yttrium-90 (a beta particle emitter), enabling targeted delivery of beta radiation to CD25-expressing cancer cells. This targeted radiotherapy approach aims to kill malignant cells by delivering cytotoxic radiation directly to them. The drug has potential antineoplastic activity and is primarily developed for hematological cancers such as refractory or relapsed Hodgkin lymphoma, mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, high-risk acute leukemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome. It has been studied in combination with chemotherapy regimens like BEAM conditioning before autologous stem cell transplantation. Early phase I/II clinical trials have demonstrated safety and encouraging efficacy signals in these indications.
