Drug intelligence / Profile preview
YU-25-NC01 is a natural compound identified through in silico screening that acts as a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibitor. Developed by researchers at Yeungnam University, the compound potently inhibits DPP4 enzymatic activity and reduces both mRNA and protein levels of DPP4. In preclinical models of high-fat diet-induced hyperglycemia, YU-25-NC01 restored circulating glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) levels, improved glycemic control, and increased GLUT4 expression in skeletal muscle and GLUT2 expression in the liver. Additionally, it has been shown to enhance skeletal muscle development, as evidenced by elevated myosin heavy chain expression and increased muscle fiber diameter, suggesting therapeutic potential for both type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetes-associated muscle atrophy.
