Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yuanhu Zhitong is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula widely used for pain relief. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of headache, dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), gastralgia (stomach pain), neuralgia, and other types of pain associated with qi stagnation and blood stasis. The formula typically contains Angelicae dahuricae Radix and Corydalis Rhizoma as its main ingredients[7]. Pharmacological studies suggest that its mechanism involves anti-inflammatory effects, modulation of hormone and cytochrome P450 concentrations[1][4], vasorelaxation activity[7], suppression of inflammatory reactions[1], regulation of PKC/ERK/NF-κB signaling pathways in arthritis models[6], and facilitation of tau protein degradation via the ubiquitin proteasomal system in neurodegenerative disease models such as Alzheimer's disease[3]. Animal studies also indicate potential antidepressant and anxiolytic effects[5][10]. The analgesic effect is attributed to multiple active constituents including alkaloids and coumarins from its herbal components.
