yuglitazone

Yuglitazone is a novel, long-acting small molecule agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) developed by Chengdu Easton Biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a member of the thiazolidinedione (TZD) class, it acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating PPARγ, which regulates the transcription of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, thereby reducing insulin resistance in peripheral tissues. Unlike traditional glitazones that require daily administration, yuglitazone is designed for once-weekly oral dosing, which may improve patient adherence and provide more stable glycemic control. As of 2024, the drug is in Phase 3 clinical development in China, specifically being evaluated as a monotherapy for patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise.
