Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yunpi Tiaozhi Fang (运脾调脂方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) multi-herbal formula designed to "invigorate the spleen and regulate lipids." It is primarily used for conditions associated with dyslipidemia, obesity, and atherosclerosis, especially in patients with TCM-diagnosed spleen deficiency, phlegm-dampness retention, and blood stasis. The formula typically contains herbs such as Codonopsis pilosula (党参), Nelumbo nucifera leaf (荷叶), Poria cocos (茯苓), Atractylodes macrocephala (白术), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (陈皮), Coix lacryma-jobi seed (薏苡仁), Alisma orientale rhizome (泽泻), Luffa cylindrica fiber (丝瓜络), Aucklandia lappa root (木香), Amomum villosum fruit (砂仁), Salvia miltiorrhiza root/rhizome (丹参), Hordeum vulgare sprout/malt barley sprout/麦芽, and Crataegus pinnatifida fruit/山楂. The mechanism of action is believed to involve improving lipid metabolism by strengthening the spleen's function in TCM theory—enhancing digestion and fluid transformation—while also promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm/dampness. Modern studies suggest it may lower serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels through modulation of metabolic pathways related to lipid absorption, transport, breakdown, as well as anti-inflammatory effects[1]. Its use targets hyperlipidemia, obesity-related metabolic syndrome features, fatty liver disease/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis risk reduction, and prevention or adjunctive management of atherosclerosis[1].
