Yupingfeng is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of three main ingredients: Astragali Radix (Huangqi), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), and Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng)[7]. It is widely used in TCM for its purported ability to "tonify Qi," strengthen the body's exterior defenses against pathogens, and regulate immune function[1][2][7]. Mechanistically, preclinical and clinical studies suggest that Yupingfeng exerts immunomodulatory effects by enhancing both innate and adaptive immunity. It has been shown to modulate cytokine production (such as reducing IL-5 and IL-13 in asthma models), restore epithelial barrier integrity via upregulation of desmoglein 1 in bronchial tissue[2], reduce serum IgE levels[3][7], decrease oxidative stress markers such as MDA[3], and improve microecological balance in chronic respiratory diseases[5].
