Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yupingfeng San (also known as Jade Windscreen Powder) is a classical and widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the ancient text *Dan Xi Xin Fa* during the Yuan Dynasty. It is composed of three key herbal ingredients: *Astragalus mongholicus* (Huang Qi), *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Bai Zhu), and *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (Fang Feng) in a 3:1:1 weight ratio. Historically prescribed to fortify the body's defensive Qi (Wei Qi) and consolidate the exterior to prevent spontaneous sweating and susceptibility to wind pathogens, modern clinical practice utilizes Yupingfeng San primarily for respiratory and immunological disorders. It is approved and marketed in China in various formulations (including granules, oral liquids, and capsules) for the prevention and treatment of the common cold, influenza, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Pharmacologically, Yupingfeng San exerts immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral effects, which have been shown to modulate key signaling pathways such as JAK-STAT, NF-κB, TLR4/MyD88, and PI3K-Akt, as well as regulate airway microbiota and epithelial barrier integrity.
