Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yupingtongqiao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shijiazhuang Yiling Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., specifically indicated for the treatment of persistent allergic rhinitis. The drug is based on the classical 'Yu Ping Feng San' formula, which is traditionally used to strengthen the defensive energy (Wei Qi) and stabilize the exterior. Modern clinical and preclinical studies indicate that Yupingtongqiao acts as an immunomodulator, restoring the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses. It has been shown to decrease the production of pro-allergic cytokines such as Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and reduce serum levels of allergen-specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE), while increasing the levels of Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). This shift in the cytokine profile suppresses the allergic inflammatory cascade in the nasal mucosa, effectively alleviating symptoms such as nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, and sneezing. It is typically prescribed for patients diagnosed with the lung-spleen qi deficiency type of allergic rhinitis.
