Yuquan (玉泉胶囊), also known as Yuquan capsules or Yuquan pill, is a traditional Chinese medicine used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. [3, 11] It is based on a classic prescription for 'xiao ke' (wasting and thirsting syndrome), which aligns with diabetic symptoms. [3] Its functions, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, are to nourish yin, replenish qi, promote the production of body fluids, quench thirst, and clear heat. [1, 10] It is indicated for symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger, and dry mouth. [3] Yuquan is a multi-herb formulation, with common ingredients including Puerariae Thomsonii Radix (Gegen), Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen), Rehmanniae Radix (Dihuang), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), and others. [3, 5, 12] It is often used in conjunction with Western hypoglycemic medicines to enhance therapeutic effects and is reported to have a protective effect on liver and kidney function. [1, 5] The drug is manufactured by companies including Hangzhou ZhongMei Huadong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Beijing Chengji Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. [6]
