Overview
Yuxunafen (also known as YR-290) is a small molecule phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor developed by Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). As a member of the "-nafil" class of drugs, it works by selectively inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme in the corpus cavernosum, which prevents the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Elevated levels of cGMP lead to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection in response to sexual stimulation. Yuxunafen is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in China, where it is being evaluated for its safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic effects on penile rigidity using RigiScan monitoring.
