Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yuzhi Zhixue is a traditional Chinese patent medicine formulated as granules and used primarily for the treatment of excessive menstrual flow caused by ovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding (ODUB) accompanied by heat syndrome. It is also studied for its effects on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The formula contains multiple herbal ingredients whose active compounds are thought to act synergistically. Mechanistic studies suggest that its therapeutic effects are mediated through regulation of several biological pathways, including apoptosis, arachidonic acid metabolism, serotonergic synapse signaling, complement and coagulation cascades, and C-type lectin receptor signaling. Key molecular targets identified include PTGS1 (COX-1), PTGS2 (COX-2), ALOX5, CASP3, LTA4H, F7 and F10. In animal models of PCOS it has been shown to improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity; modulate sex hormone levels; ameliorate ovarian pathology; regulate lipid metabolism; and activate the PI3K/Akt pathway[3][7].
