Overview
YXL ointment is an investigational topical botanical drug developed by the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. The drug is a standardized formulation derived from the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula Yinxieling, which has a long history of use in China for skin disorders. YXL ointment is being evaluated in clinical trials, such as the Phase 1 study ChiCTR2300069640, to assess its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in patients with mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. The study compares 1% and 5% concentrations of the ointment against calcipotriene, a standard-of-care vitamin D3 analog. The therapeutic effect is likely mediated through the anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties of its herbal constituents, aimed at reducing psoriatic lesions and improving skin symptoms.
