Z-Pro-prolinal

Z-Pro-prolinal is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a potent and selective inhibitor of prolyl endopeptidase (also known as prolyl oligopeptidase or PREP), with an IC50 in the sub-nanomolar range for porcine PREP. It is primarily used as a research tool to study the role of prolyl endopeptidase in neurobiology and cellular signaling. Prolyl endopeptidase regulates the cleavage of peptide hormones and neuropeptides such as vasopressin, substance P, neurotensin, and thyrotropin-releasing hormone. Inhibition of this enzyme has been linked to potential therapeutic effects in cognitive function, memory disorders such as amnesia and Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and other neurodegenerative conditions[1][4][7]. However, Z-Pro-prolinal is not approved for clinical use; it remains an experimental compound used in laboratory research.
