Zabalafin is a novel, first-in-class complex single-source botanical drug developed by Alphyn Biologics. It contains multiple bioactive compounds and is designed as a topical multi-target therapeutic for skin diseases. Its primary mechanism of action includes anti-pruritic (anti-itch), antibacterial (notably against *Staphylococcus aureus* and MRSA), and anti-inflammatory activities. Zabalafin uniquely addresses both the immune/inflammatory and bacterial components of atopic dermatitis (AD) in one therapy—potentially reducing the need for combination regimens often required for AD with secondary infection. The drug has demonstrated significant improvements in itch relief, inflammation reduction, control of bacteria-associated flares, and patient quality-of-life measures in Phase 2a clinical trials for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.
