Zactaject

Zactaject is an injectable formulation of zoledronic acid, a potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate developed and marketed by Atco Pharma. It is indicated for the treatment of various bone-related conditions, including postmenopausal osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, and the prevention of skeletal-related events (such as pathological fractures or spinal cord compression) in patients with advanced malignancies involving bone. Additionally, it is used to treat hypercalcemia of malignancy. Zoledronic acid exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP) synthase, a key enzyme in the mevalonate pathway within osteoclasts. This inhibition disrupts the prenylation of essential GTP-binding proteins, leading to osteoclast apoptosis and a significant reduction in bone resorption and turnover.
