Zaloganan is a synthetic peptide antibacterial agent developed for the treatment of prosthetic joint infections (PJI) and other hardware-related device infections. It acts by rapidly disrupting bacterial membranes, allowing it to penetrate and kill bacteria hidden within biofilms, a major cause of treatment failure in device-associated infections. Zaloganan has demonstrated broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against a wide range of pathogens[2][4][7]. Its lead indication is prosthetic joint infection, with pivotal Phase 2/3 clinical trials beginning in December 2025. It has received QIDP, Orphan Drug, and Fast Track designations from the FDA[2][5]. In Phase 1 studies, local irrigation during DAIR procedures showed high success rates, with 93% of patients infection-free at 12 months[2][4][5].
