Overview

Zalutumumab + irinotecan is an investigational **combination drug regimen** comprising zalutumumab, a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and irinotecan, a topoisomerase I inhibitor antineoplastic agent. Zalutumumab binds to EGFR and inhibits ligand-induced receptor activation and autophosphorylation while also inducing antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). Irinotecan acts by inhibiting topoisomerase I, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in proliferating cells. This combination is being studied for advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer, particularly in patients who have progressed on or shortly after anti-EGFR therapies like cetuximab[2][3][4][5][9].
