Drug intelligence / Profile preview
*Zanthoxylum clava-herculis* whole refers to the complete plant or a whole-plant extract of the Hercules' club tree, native to the southeastern United States. It is primarily recognized in traditional herbal medicine and certain over-the-counter (OTC) topical or oral formulations. The plant contains bioactive alkaloids such as chelerythrine and the aromatic bitter oil xanthoxylin. Historically, it has been utilized for its numbing properties to treat toothaches (hence the name "toothache tree") and for its purported effects on circulation, menstrual cramps, and inflammation. It is not currently developed as a regulated pharmaceutical drug by a specific company and lacks a defined molecular target in a clinical setting.
