Zao Jiao Tong Luo is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, most commonly encountered as Zao Jiao Tong Luo capsules, used primarily for the treatment of ischemic stroke and cerebral infarction. The preparation is designed to address the TCM patterns of "phlegm-stasis blocking the collaterals," aiming to improve neurological function and physical disability during the recovery phase of a stroke. Its pharmacological activity is attributed to a combination of herbal and animal-derived components, such as *Gleditsia sinensis* and *Hirudo* (leech). These ingredients work synergistically to inhibit platelet aggregation, promote fibrinolysis, and reduce blood viscosity, thereby improving cerebral microcirculation. Additionally, the formulation exhibits neuroprotective effects by modulating inflammatory pathways and reducing oxidative damage in brain tissues.
