Overview

The ZAPI antigen is a recombinant protein vaccine candidate developed by Dyadic International in collaboration with the Zoonotic Anticipation and Preparedness Initiative (ZAPI) consortium. Produced using Dyadic's proprietary C1 fungal cell protein expression platform (*Thermothelomyces heterothallica*), the antigen targets the Schmallenberg virus (SBV), a zoonotic pathogen affecting ruminants like cattle and sheep. The C1 platform achieved exceptionally high yields (17 times the initial target) for this specific antigen. Preclinical animal studies in mice and cattle have demonstrated that the C1-produced SBV antigen provides strong protective immunity against the virus, supporting its potential as a rapid-response vaccine candidate for emerging zoonotic diseases.
