Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zatrik is a low osmolarity oral rehydration solution (ORS) developed and marketed by Tabros Pharma, a pharmaceutical company based in Pakistan. It is formulated as a powder in sachets for oral administration after reconstitution with water. The product is specifically designed to manage dehydration resulting from acute diarrhea and gastroenteritis. By utilizing a reduced osmolarity formulation (consistent with WHO and UNICEF standards), Zatrik facilitates the rapid absorption of water and electrolytes through the sodium-glucose cotransport mechanism in the small intestine. This approach is clinically preferred over standard ORS as it reduces stool volume and the risk of emesis, thereby decreasing the need for intravenous fluid therapy.
