Zayata

Zayata is an oral phytomedicine developed by Juvenor Pharmaceuticals in partnership with Piramal Enterprises. It is a standardized extract derived from the oleogum resin of the *Commiphora mukul* tree, commonly known as Guggul. The primary active components of Zayata are guggulsterones (specifically E- and Z-guggulsterone). Zayata is indicated for the management of hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol). Its mechanism of action involves the antagonism of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor that regulates cholesterol and bile acid homeostasis. By antagonizing FXR, Zayata promotes the conversion of cholesterol into bile acids and enhances the expression of hepatic LDL receptors, leading to increased clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the blood. It is marketed as a clinically validated botanical alternative to conventional lipid-lowering agents.
