Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZBD042 is a small molecule antiviral agent being developed by Harbin Treasure Pharmaceutical (also known as Harbin Zhenbaodao Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of influenza virus infection. It is designed as an injectable formulation, which distinguishes it from many oral anti-influenza treatments. ZBD042 functions as an inhibitor of the influenza virus RNA polymerase complex, specifically targeting the cap-dependent endonuclease (CEN) activity within the polymerase acidic (PA) subunit. By inhibiting this enzyme, the drug prevents the 'cap-snatching' process required for viral mRNA synthesis, thereby halting viral replication. The drug has completed Phase 1 clinical trials in both the United States and China, where it was evaluated for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers, and is currently being prepared for Phase 2 clinical development.
