ZD55-EGFP is a genetically engineered **replication-selective oncolytic adenovirus** based on human adenovirus type 5, engineered with a deletion of the E1B-55kDa gene, and expressing the **enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP)** as a reporter gene[1][2][4]. Like ONYX-015, ZD55 viruses selectively replicate in and lyse tumor cells but are attenuated in normal cells due to the E1B-55kDa deletion[1][2]. The insertion of EGFP enables visualization and tracking of viral infection and gene expression. ZD55-EGFP is primarily a research tool to study adenoviral replication and tumor cell killing mechanisms, and to serve as a model for studying the effects of modifications (such as arming with therapeutic genes) in preclinical cancer models[1][2][4].
