Overview

Zecke is a generic formulation of abiraterone acetate, a small molecule inhibitor of the enzyme cytochrome P450 17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase (CYP17). This enzyme is essential for androgen biosynthesis in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissues. By blocking CYP17, abiraterone acetate significantly reduces the production of testosterone and other androgens that fuel the progression of prostate cancer. Developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical, Zecke was evaluated in a bioequivalence study conducted at The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, where it demonstrated bioequivalence to the reference product Zytiga. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and is typically administered orally in combination with prednisone.
