ZED3197 is a peptidomimetic small molecule inhibitor developed by Zedira GmbH that targets coagulation Factor XIIIa (FXIIIa) for the treatment of thrombosis and as an anticoagulant. It acts as a direct-acting, irreversible inhibitor by utilizing a Michael acceptor warhead to covalently bind to the Cys314 residue of the FXIIIa catalytic triad. By inhibiting FXIIIa, which is responsible for cross-linking fibrin and stabilizing blood clots, ZED3197 allows for the formation of 'soft' clots that are more susceptible to lysis while providing minimal impact on primary hemostasis. This mechanism offers a potential safety advantage over traditional anticoagulants by reducing the risk of bleeding. The compound is currently in preclinical development and is intended for intravenous administration in acute care settings.
