Overview

Zefylti, also known by its code name BP13, is a biosimilar of filgrastim developed by CuraTeQ Biologics, a subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma. It functions as a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) receptor agonist, mimicking the action of naturally occurring G-CSF. By stimulating the bone marrow, Zefylti promotes the production and release of neutrophils, thereby increasing white blood cell counts. This mechanism is primarily employed for the treatment of neutropenia, a condition characterized by abnormally low levels of neutrophils, often experienced by cancer patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy. It is also indicated for the mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells (PBPCs). Zefylti is administered via injection under the skin or infusion into a vein and is available in pre-filled syringes. It has received marketing authorization in the UK and a positive opinion from the EMA for approval in the European Union.
